Why And How Lesser-Known Chinese Phone Brands So Cheap?

Here Are Some Reasons

China has come a long way from the days of generic low-quality knock offs they have lesser-known brands emerging that offer just as much as the mainstream brands with far less cost. The obvious reason you may want a Chinese brand is that they offer lower prices than more mainstream brands so right now we are going to cover some of the reasons of how and the why that is.

Everything Is Made In Asia

Of course, we know China is the leading manufacturer in the world and a lot of products you may not associate with china are made in China and then assembled in countries they are sold in. Iphones are one very notable example of China's low labour cost and manufacturing prowess. It's not just that everything is made in China it's that everything is made in Asia. Your typical lesser-known Chinese brand will use a CPU from Media Tek a Taiwanese company and the rest of the parts that are not made in china will usually come from other parts of Asia like a Camera from Korea's Samsung or Japan's Sony. Manufactures closer relative to the western competitors is one way to keep the overall cost down. 

Software For All

So we at least have part of the reason China can keep the cost of hardware down but what about the software? Android itself is an operating system that must be free for everyone, legally. Google did not make Android themselves they used a version of the operating System Linux called kernel. Linux is a completely free operating system, when Richard stallman patented it he included a clause that said something to the effect that the Linux itself must be free and anyone who uses it must share freely, it cannot be sold. The analogy he used was that when kids go to school with sweets they must bring enough for everyone. He had no problem with the software being used for business hence the reason google can use it for Android and must share it with any manufacturers from China to the moon. 

Not As Seen On TV 

When was the last time you saw a lesser known Chinese brand on TV or heard about them on the radio or even a youtube ad? Probably never right, most businesses including manufacturing with a few exceptions like Tesla and one Xiaomi spend most of their budget on marketing, it does not matter how good your product is if no one knows about it. Small known and some big known Chinese manufacturers are dependent on free media and websites like Gearbest that actively promote their products.

Coming To No Stores Near You

Small Chinese brands do not have physical stores this is of course why some are dependent on companies like Gearbest to stock up on their products and also why many only directly sell to the consumer saving the cost of setting up and staffing stores.

Are you the Early Purchaser? The Part About Getting The lowest price

The next sections will cover the types of purchasing that will relate heavily to timing and what kind of buyer you are.

Starting in chronological order we will discuss the earliest kind of purchase opportunity that Chinese manufacturers usually offer and those are called Preorders, presales or sometimes flash sales however flash sales are not always the earliest purchase opportunity. Flash sales can be for models that were released years ago. For this section, we are referring to Flash sales for preorder Androids. Flash sales are called flash sales because the goods put up are intentionally priced lowly with a limited amount of stock so they are gone in a flash. Manufacturers benefit and websites that sell their products benefit from this for a couple of good reasons.

Reason Number One: Getting The Ball Rolling

Many seller sites like to display how many of a product has been sold because buyers are more likely to buy what other people have bought because they trust what other people are willing to trust. Imagine if a product looks perfect but no one else has bought it you would probably think that there must be something wrong with it. Early purchases get the ball rolling which creates trust for later purchasers.

Number Two: Reviews

Another way this benefits manufacturers and sellers are through reviews. Getting people to write reviews is not always easy in our store we have hardly any reviews, lots of sales and few reviews we are fighting tooth and nail to get some more so if you purchase from our store please leave one, the percentage of people who view our products deciding to make a purchase would probably increase because it makes trust easier. Positive reviews from early flash sales purchases help to increase confidence in the product which increases the conversion rate even if Chinese companies sell their Android's at a loss in flash sales they will more than make it back their money in the long run. 

Number 3: Limited Stock

Small Chinese brands are not like mega brands and the world of technology moves on quickly so they can only really afford to make as many phones as they are going to sell in a set period of time they do not keep years worth of a particular model in a warehouse somewhere. A lot of the time small Chinese brands will discontinue a product after months and then go straight on to the next thing.

Warnings

I have received messages from a very unhappy customer of a Chinese Android of the same brand that is used in our flash sale examples which prompted me to warn potential customers of the risk of these kinds of purchases. 

Warning 1

This brings us to a potential negative for Flash sale, early purchasers have no way of knowing about any potential faults with an Android they can't simply read the reviews. 

Warning 2

Flash sales of new Androids from China are always shipped directly from China which comes with potential risks. If using cheap couriers you could be looking at 60 days for the phone to arrive and maybe it won't arrive at all if by some chance it is lost in the mail. You also run the risk of the Android being damaged in transit. These potential risks are all but eradicated by using the higher-end delivery services and they can get your Android to you from China in as little as 3 days. At the minimum make sure the order will be tracked and the company packages well. Companies like Gearbest offer expedited shipping in their flash sales.
